Lucas raises funds for trip

Lindsey Lucas, a 2018 graduate of Albany High School, is continuing her softball career at Hardin-Simmons University and is hoping she will have a chance to play overseas this summer.

Lucas, who has played softball since she was six years old, was a part of the Albany Lady Lion team that went to State in 2018.

She currently has been invited to play softball in Italy with her HSU teammates this summer, if she can raise enough money to pay for her trip.

“I have never been to Italy, but it has always been my dream,” said Lucas. “And to be able to play the sport I love, in Italy, is a dream come true.”

The week-long trip is scheduled for July 30 to Aug. 7, and players must raise $3,000 each before the end of May to cover their expenses.

Lucas has opened a Go-Fund Me page and is also giving batting lessons to earn money for the trip. In addition, she is gathering items for a garage sale and may hold a bake sale later this spring if she is still short of funds.

Lucas played varsity softball for Albany all four years of high school and was selected as a 2018 Class 2A All-State Softball Team first-team pick at second base.

Lucas played in scrimmages for the Cowgirls early in the season and is eagerly anticipating taking the field again this week after being sidelined for six weeks due to saucer fractures in both shins.
