Local classes set to resume on Monday

Classes in the Albany schools will resume on Monday morning, March 16 following a week-long spring break.

The tardy bells will ring as usual at 7:55 a.m. at Nancy Smith Elementary School and 8:00 a.m. at the secondary campus.

The remainder of the semester will include mandatory state testing, interrupted by one student holiday.

A teacher workday and student holiday is scheduled for Good Friday, April 11, with classes to take place as usual on Monday, April 13.

The day after Easter was originally scheduled as a student holiday, but the calendar had to be adjusted to make up time lost when the district was closed Feb. 5-6 due to dangerous wintery weather.

The elementary school had enough extra minutes built into the calendar to absorb one of the missed days, leaving only one day to make up.

The secondary campus schedule did not include as many spare minutes, so those students will begin school at 7:30 a.m. on March 17, 18, 24, and 25 to make up the time needed to meet state requirements.
