Albany News

Little League signup takes place tonight at The Feed Store between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Today is also the deadline to sign up children for T-Ball and Coach Pitch.

Players who will be eight years old or older on Aug. 31, 2019 should plan to go with their parents to sign up for Little League. The registration meeting will be held between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. tonight at The Feed Store, but signup should only take a few minutes per player.

“T-Ball and Coach Pitch youth do not need to attend the meeting,” said league organizer Anthony Ceder, “but they do need to turn in their completed registration forms along with the registration fee to the Nancy Smith Elementary School office by Feb. 28.”

Registration fees, which are used to provide insurance, jerseys, caps, umpires, equipment, and field maintenance are $40 for T-Ball, $50 for Coach Pitch, and $75 for Little League.

Parents of Little League players will need to bring the $75 fee and the completed registration form, including the school enrollment form, to the meeting tonight.

Parents of children who have not competed in Little League before will also need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.

Copies of the birth certificates of those who have played on an Albany Little League team in the past should still be on file with the league, and it is not necessary to bring another copy.

“Little League players need to come to the meeting even if they have played before,” said Ceder. “We need them to try on a jersey and cap.”

Ceder said that parents and Little League players can come to The Feed Store and sign up anytime during the 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. registration window tonight, Feb. 28.

Parents and all coaches will need to fill out and turn in a volunteer form.

Try-Outs

Try-outs for those playing in Little League for the first time will take place this Saturday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m., and make-up try-outs will be the following day, March 3, at 4:00 p.m.

“We don’t have try-outs for T-ball or Coach Pitch,” added Ceder, “but players entering Little League for the first time must try out and be drafted.”

Little League is designed for boys and girls between eight and 12 years of age.

“Players who turn eight before Aug. 31, 2019 will play in Little League,” said Ceder. “Students who are 13 or older before Aug. 31, 2019 are not eligible.”
