With the Shackelford County Library still closed, the usual summer reading program will not be offered this year.

Albany Study Club members normally start the reading program the first Tuesday in June. The program is for children ages four to 10 and meets every Tuesday for one month.

Library committee chairperson Janna Ledbetter said the program is interactive, and several kids and their parents usually attend.

“It would be hard to keep the children engaged and safe within the guidelines of the government restrictions,” Ledbetter said.

As for the library reopening, Ledbetter said committee members are going to wait and see what happens.

“We are cautiously optimistic,” Ledbetter said. “If Albany opens well and there is not an increase in COVID-19 cases, then we will consider a reopen date.

Ledbetter added that the digital library is still available. Readers can call 325-260-3857 to be set up .
