Kindred collects supplies

School supplies are being accepted at the Kindred at Home health office in Albany during the company’s national campaign drive in August, and Tracy Sullivan recently picked up a donation from the Shackelford County EMS station that included just what the schools are requesting.

The local campuses both put tissue and hand sanitizer at the top of their lists, said Sullivan.

“I expected pens and paper to be up there, but they said that since students do so much of their work on computers these days, they don’t typically run short of those,” Sullivan said. “Both of the Albany schools said that what they really needed were Kleenex and hand sanitizer.”

She added that all donations of school supplies are welcome and appreciated.

In 2017 and 2018 the local Kindred Home Health office collected non-perishable food items during Kindred’s national food drive. However, because Albany does not currently have a food bank to store and distribute those items, the Albany employees opted to meet a different community need this year.

“We had noticed a need for school supplies,” said Sullivan. “And teachers can sure go through a lot of Kleenex and hand sanitizer when they have a room full of students and are trying to prevent the spread of diseases.”

All items donated to the local Kindred office will be distributed to Shackelford County schools soon after the school year starts, so the drive will end next Friday, Aug. 23.

Donations can either be dropped off at the Kendrick office at 100 North Main between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or donors can call 325-762-2854 to have the items picked up.
