Hours changed to protect volunteers

Closet Angels and Neighbors in Need will both be closed until further notice, and neither will be able to accept any donations during the current coronavirus outbreak.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed CA and NIN and we will not be accepting any donations until further notice,” said director Lori Reames. “Please do not leave any items outside of the buildings, as volunteers have been instructed not to come. Anyone seen on camera leaving items will be contacted to retrieve their donations.”

Reames explained that most of their volunteers are over 60 years of age, and therefore at greater risk if they should be exposed to the virus.

“We felt it necessary (to close) to protect them,” said Reames. “We are asking for everyone’s cooperation to help us get through this situation.”

Reames said that she will continue to monitor the situation and follow the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

“The health and well-being of our shoppers, donors, and volunteers is a top priority,” Reames said. “While there have been no cases of coronavirus connected to our ministries, we are taking proactive and preventative measures to help ensure everyone’s safety.”

Don’t Dump Trash

NIN volunteer Clara Miller is also asking donors not to leave items that end up going to the trash.

“We have the most giving, generous people in Albany, but some dump things that are filthy and beyond repair,” she said. “It takes time and manpower to haul them off, so please think about it before you bring useless things here.”
