The Albany Chapter of the National Honor Society will induct 16 new members this Sunday.

A recognition ceremony for the new members will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Albany High School auditorium.

A reception in the --high school library for honor society members and their families and guests will follow the ceremony.

AISD students chosen to be honored with induction into the National Honor Society are Addison Asher, Max Balliew, Tyler Beard, Julia Bowman, Conner Clark, Seth Hale, Blaine Kayga, and Alayna Koemel.

Also selected to be inducted are honorees Gracie LeMay, Aubrey Moon, Jaleigh Morales, Taylor Scott, Brayden Sullivan, Ben West, Alyssa Zuniga, and Ivie Zuniga.

Current officers of the Albany NHS will be conducting the induction ceremony.

Officers are president Jillian Guinn, vice president Madison Wilkins, secretary Haley Stewart, reporter Cutter Edgar, and treasurer Caroline Masters.

Invitation into the National Honor Society requires students to display scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

“Members must earn six hours of service per semester, 12 hours total,” said Dee Dee Waggoner, who along with Jenny Scott sponsors the local chapter of the NHS.

According to NHS national guidelines, students must have at least a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and individual school chapters are allowed to require an even higher GPA.

Leadership experience is required and can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

Students must demonstrate high standards of honesty and reliability, show courtesy, concern, and respect for others, be cooperative, and maintain a clean disciplinary record.

Students who meet the scholarship requirement have an opportunity to complete a form detailing their accomplishments in and commitment to service, leadership, and character.

NHS members are expected to volunteer in their community.
