Homecoming to spotlight floats, royalty

Painted streets, streamers tied to signs, decorated parade floats, dress-up days, plays x’ed and o’ed on the board, halftime program practices, and careful consideration of Friday’s hairstyles, makeup, and outfits by halftime royalty were all part of the preparation made for tomorrow’s Homecoming activities.

AHS Royalty

Each of the four high school classes chose a king and queen nominee from among the seniors, winners will be decided by votes cast by the entire student body, and they will be announced during halftime on Friday.

Contenders for Homecoming Queen and King put forward by the freshmen are Sarena Moreno and Cutter Edgar. Sophomores placed Caroline Masters and Simon McBee on the ballot. Chosen by the juniors are Haley Stewart and Cameron Dacus. The seniors gave their nod to peers Madison Wilkins and Payne Hebel.

Included in halftime presentations tomorrow will be the princess and prince selected by each of the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Freshman homecoming princess and prince are Ansleigh Garcia and Luke Ivy. Sophomores Hannah Snyder is a princess and Ryder Wilkins a prince. Princess Mady Connally and Prince B.J. Morris are juniors.

Completing the Homecoming court are several organizational honorees including FCCLA Sweetheart Alli Hill and Beau Ben West, Football Sweetheart Kam Browning and Beau Jaheim Newton, Band Sweetheart Tristan Edgar and Beau Andrew Hinkle, and FFA Sweetheart Taylor Scott and Beau Tyler Beard.

Friday Activities

The Friday activities begin early with many of the secondary students attired as “Freaky Fan Friday” for the final day of dress-up week.

The traditional homecoming pep rally starts at 8:40 a.m. in the AHS gym.

All parade entries must be registered with secondary principal Edward Morales. Entries are to gather by 4:15 p.m. to join the lineup at the Nail Stadium parking lot. The caravan pulls out at 5:00 p.m.

Secondary school classes have constructed homecoming parade floats, decorating them to correspond with the parade theme “Holidays.”

The junior high students’ float is New Year’s Day

Freshmen chose Fourth of July, while sophomores are celebrating Thanksgiving.

Christmas was selected by the junior class. Seniors built a Halloween float.

The parade will include all homecoming royalty riding in cars, the floats representing the classes, the AHS band, as well as the 50th reunion classes and their Coming Home Queen and King selections.

The Albany Lions will host the Baird Bears on Friday, Oct. 12, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Homecoming royalty will be presented to the fans during the half-time activities.

Fifth Quarter

After the game, the Church of Christ, Maranatha Fellowship, and Jesus of Nazareth Catholic Church will team up to host Fifth Quarter at The Feed Store.

Exes Meeting

Albany ex-students are encouraged to attend the alumni business meeting at the Aztec Theater on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. and the salad luncheon to follow.
