Albany High School students will vote next week for the seniors to be named Homecoming King and Queen.

Last Friday, Sept. 28, each of the four classes at AHS selected nominees for king and queen from among the seniors.

The juniors, sophomores, and freshmen also selected their class prince and princess, and honorees from several other organizations will join them in the homecoming court.

The selected royalty will be presented during halftime of the Albany homecoming football game on Friday, Oct. 12.

AHS Royalty

Candidates for king and queen selected by the seniors are Payne Hebel and Madison Wilkins. Nominees named by the junior class are Cameron Dacus and Haley Stewart, while the sophomores chose Simon McBee and Caroline Masters. The freshmen’s candidates for the honor are Cutter Edgar and Sarena Moreno.

All king and queen nominees are seniors, and the winners will be selected by the entire student body.

The other honorees include the prince and princess for each class. Junior honorees are B.J. Morris and Mady Connally, while the sophomores elected Ryder Wilkins and Hannah Snyder. Luke Ivy and Ansleigh Garcia are the homecoming royalty for the freshman class.

Other honorees selected include FFA Beau Tyler Beard and Sweetheart Taylor Scott, Band Beau Andrew Hinkle and Sweetheart Tristan Edgar, Football Beau Jaheim Newton and Sweetheart Kam Browning, and the -FCCLA Beau Ben West and Sweetheart Alli Hill.

The AHS homecoming week is jam-packed with activities as Albany High School students begin to celebrate the Oct. 12, 2018 “Holidays” homecoming.

Float Building

Next Sunday the classes at the secondary school can begin constructing their homecoming parade floats, according to high school principal Edward Morales.

“Classes can start working on their floats on Sunday, Oct. 7,” Morales said. “Their budget limit is $200 per class.”

Each high school class will decorate a float according to the student council selected theme of “Holidays.” The two junior high classes will work together on one entry.

The senior class members selected Halloween for their holiday.

Juniors are hoping to be given a present of the first place ribbon in the parade with a Christmas float.

Thanksgiving was chosen by the sophomore class.

The freshmen decided on a patriotic and typically noisy Fourth of July.

The junior high float theme is New Year’s Day.

Street Painting

On Sunday, Oct. 7, all varsity football, cheerleader, volleyball, and cross country athletes and their parents need to help paint the streets for homecoming, according to Booster Club secretary Tisha Wilkins.

“Bring your own paint roller,” she said. “Paint and some mixing sticks will be provided. Each sport’s athletes and parents are responsible for painting the names of their team members.”

The groups will start painting at 6:00 p.m., and each of the groups has an assigned area.

Cross country representatives will paint the street that goes from the east side of the gym parking lot toward the track. The volleyball area will be in front of the gym. Cheerleaders will decorate up high school hill. Football players and parents will paint the gym parking lot.

“At 8:00 p.m., Main Street will be blocked off for the football parents to paint,” said Wilkins. “We have asked the junior high cheerleaders and their parents to tie streamers around town on Sunday.”

Dress-up Days

Themes for homecoming week dress-up days have been chosen.

Monday, Oct. 8 is a school holiday.

On Oct. 9 the campus is invited to dress for a fiesta on “Taco Tuesday.”

“Wake up Wednesday” is the theme for Oct. 10, and pajamas will be the chosen attire.

Students will dress in styles long gone but not forgotten on “Throwback Thursday,” Oct. 11.

Lions, along with all things red and white, are likely to fill the schools on “Freaky Fan Friday,” Oct. 12.

Friday Activities

Kicking off the Friday activities is the traditional homecoming pep rally at 8:40 a.m. in the AHS gym. This is a change in time from the typical Friday afternoon pep rallies and will more easily allow the Nancy Smith Elementary students to attend the spirit building event, as well as give students more time in the afternoon to prepare for the parade.

The parade will follow at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. All parade entries must be registered with Morales. Entries are to gather by 4:15 p.m. to join the lineup at the Nail Stadium parking lot. The caravan pulls out at 5:00 p.m.

The parade will include all homecoming royalty riding in cars, floats representing the classes, as well as the AHS band.

Fifth Quarter

Fifth Quarter will be held at The Feed Store after the homecoming game on Oct. 12 against Baird. The Church of Christ, Maranatha Fellowship, and the Catholic Church will be the sponsors.
