Group returns from Africa

Grant Head, Susan Jones, Hunter Owen, and Madison Ratliff recently returned from a mission trip to Namayumba, Uganda with Live Missions, a Christian organization founded to educate and empower Christ’s followers to share the gospel through intentional discipleship.

Jones’ husband Jeff is on the Live Missions board of directors, serving as treasurer of the organization founded by Thomas Aly, who until recently was the youth minister at First Baptist Church in Albany.

Aly, along with another person from Abilene, one from Merkel, two from Corpus Christi, and one from New Mexico, and the four from Albany, made up the 10-member team that went on the 15-day mission trip to Africa.

“We left DFW on July 10 and went through Dubai,” said Aly. “We arrived in Uganda on the morning of the 12th, then left on the 24th and got back to DFW on the 25th.”

The group met with 15 to 30 people each day for discipleship class, and worked with God’s Way Church, Heritage Junior School, and pastor Bamanya Deogratius and his wife Irene.

This was the first undertaking for Live Missions, but Aly has been leading groups to Uganda for several years.

“This was one of the best trips we have done in a while,” Aly said. “God did many great things; there were 74 salvations!”

The team members also had a chance to enjoy some local culture on the trip.

“We got to do a sand dune tour, ride camels, and have a traditional barbecue,” said Aly. “We also walked the streets of Dubai and shared Jesus. Later in the trip, we got to raft down the Nile River, which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Aly is already starting to organize the next two Live Missions trips, both scheduled to go to Uganda in 2019, and anyone interested can find out more information at livemissions.org.
