Grandparents Week continues

Students and teachers at Nancy Smith Elementary School are wrapping up a full five days of Grandparents Week celebration.

“Grandparents Week is going really well,” said administrative assistant Stephanie Gleitz on Tuesday. “We’ve had a good turnout.”

NSES students’ grandparents and “substitute” grandparents were invited to join their family members for a special lunch, classroom visits, and entertainment during Grandparents Week Nov. 18-22.

The students were encouraged to invite “substitute grandparents” such as other relatives, neighbors, friends from church, etc. if they do not have grandparents living nearby.

There is not a scheduled day for grades this time as there has been in the past. Instead, grandparents are welcome to come any day they can, letting the school know a day in advance if they intend to eat lunch, in order to get a head count for the meal.

Adult visitor lunches are $4 each.

“I believe all grade levels enjoy a visit from grandparents,” said superintendent Jonathan Scott. “Some grandparents come several times a week to eat lunch and give individual attention to each of their grandchildren.”

Pictures will not be sold this year, but a photo backdrop is available for those who choose to bring their own equipment and take pictures.

“Members of our sixth grade leadership team are available to use your camera or phone to take a picture of you with your grandchild,” Gleitz said.

Depending on each student’s class schedule, the visitors may be invited to accompany the children back to their classrooms to see some of the class work being done by the children.

Student-created artwork will be on display.

Visitors are invited to enter the front doors of the main building, where they will be greeted and asked to sign in.

However, handicapped parking is available in the teachers parking lot with a sign-in sheet in the cafeteria, if that makes it easier for some of the guests.

The lunch schedule for each grades is listed below.

•PreK and Head Start: 10:45-11:15 a.m.

•Kindergarten: 11:00-11:30 a.m.

•First: 11:20-11:50 a.m.

•Second: 11:25-11:55 a.m.

•Third: 11:30 a.m.-12:00 noon.

•Fourth: 11:40 a.m.-12:10 p.m.

•Fifth: 12:05-12:35 p.m.

•Sixth: 12:10-12:40 p.m.

Grandparents of fourth grade students are reminded that the class will be attending the Nutcracker ballet in Abilene on Friday.
