Grandparents and “substitute” grandparents of Nancy Smith Elementary School students are invited to join their family members for special lunch, classroom visits, and entertainment during Grandparents Week Nov. 18-22.

The students are encouraged to invite other relatives, neighbors, friends from church, etc. if they don’t have grandparents, or if their grandparents don’t live nearby.

Also, if there are senior adults in the community who would like to volunteer to eat with students who don’t have grandparents nearby, they are asked to call the NSES office at 325-762-3384 and let the staff know when they would like to come to the school.

Unlike recent years, this year the school does not have designated days for specific classes.

School officials would like to know as soon as possible if a child’s grandparents (or other guests) will be eating a school lunch with them in the cafeteria, so that cafeteria workers have an accurate count on how many lunches to prepare each day. An adult visitor lunch is $4.

“They can call us at the school office, or contact the child’s teacher, so we can let Debra Boyett know how many guests to expect,” said administrative assistant Stephanie Gleitz.

Photos will be not be sold by the school this year, but a fall background will be provided.

“Sixth grade leadership team members will be available to take pictures using your phone or camera,” said Gleitz.

Visitors are invited to enter the front doors of the main building, where they will be greeted and asked to sign in. Handicapped parking is available in the teachers parking lot with a sign-in sheet in the cafeteria to make it easier for some of the guests.

The lunch schedule for each of the grades at NSES is available at nses.albanyisd.net.
