Fish fry planned this Friday

During the season of Lent, Catholics and other denominations often abstain from eating meat on Fridays.

In holding true to this tenet of faith and obedience, members of the Jesus of Nazareth Catholic Church will host a fish fry fundraiser from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 12, following the Stations of the Cross at 5:15 p.m.

Organizer Jeff Bezner said while the money raised will be used for church needs and local mission work, the fundraiser is more about bringing back a sense of community.

“During the pandemic, many people stopped attending church due to fear of getting sick, and we understand that,” said Bezner. “Now that some of the restrictions are easing up, we wanted to remind people that we are still here and we are not going anywhere. The church is such an important part of the community, and we want people to start getting back in the habit of going to church.”

The ‘To-Go’ menu includes fried fish, tater tots, and hush puppies, coleslaw, beans, and a brownie.

The church is accepting donations for the meal with a suggested contribution of $10 per plate.

The local Catholic Church is located at the top of One Mile Hill, with the sign and turnoff on the south side of the highway.
