Local residents who want to run for city council, hospital district, or school board positions in the Saturday, May 2 election may begin filing the required paperwork on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Filing closes a month later on Friday, Feb. 14 at 5:00 p.m. There is no filing fee.

Albany City Council

Three of the two-year city council positions expire this cycle.

In addition to those seats, the unexpected death of mayor Rodney Alexander has left the mayor’s office vacant. As a result, the remaining one year of the two-year mayorial term will be up for election this cycle.

The seats currently filled by council members Lester Galbreath, James Waters, and Susan Montgomery will be voted on this year.

Applications will be available at City Hall from city secretary Becky Wiloth.

There are no designated seats in the city elections, except for the office of mayor.

The top three candidates for councilmen will be elected from the slate of applicants.

Those with questions should call the city secretary’s office at 325-762-3133.

Albany ISD Board

Albany ISD has two trustee spots that are up for election in 2020. The places are for full three-year terms.

Candidates in the Albany school election must file for a specific seat on the board and must live within the boundaries of the school district.

Applications will be available at the superintendent’s office at the secondary school campus.

Up for election this May are the trustee positions held by Robert Montgomery for Place 1 and Ginny Ivy for Place 2.

Hospital Board

The Shackelford County Hospital Board will have four of seven seats on the May ballot.

The four full-term, two-year seats currently held by Janna Ledbetter, John Ayers, Myra Hise, and Chris Beard will expire.

Beard was recently appointed to serve out the unexpired term vacated by Angela Farmer.

Election information and applications will be available from Regina Whitt at the hospital district office at 840 Gregg Street.

Hospital candidates must have their applications signed by 10 registered Shackelford County voters.

“We strongly recommend that applicants obtain at least 12 signatures, just in case someone that signs is not a current registered voter,” said Whitt.

Moran City Council

The Moran city council will select three at-large two-year term city council seats during the spring election. The council seats are currently occupied by Dora Cook Leonard, Tyler George, and Cindy Husky.

Those with questions can call city secretary Teresa King at Moran City Hall at 325-945-3441.

Moran ISD Board

Two at-large positions on the Moran ISD school board are up for election. Applicants must live in the school district to serve.

Seats up for election are currently filled by Gary Roan and James Shelton.

Shelton is finishing out the term that was left vacant when Grant Robinson died in late 2018.

Board members serve three-year terms.

Packets for Moran ISD school board positions will be available in the superintendent’s office during school hours.

SUD Board

Three of the three-year terms on the local special utilities district board will expire this year, including positions currently held by John Adams, Robert Montgomery, and Jim Blancq.

For more information on filing for one of these seats, contact Betty Shelton at 325-762-2575.
