As of Monday, only four openings were available for this weekend’s Father’s Day Golf Tournament set for Saturday and Sunday at the Albany Golf Course.

Tournament organizer James Waters said that he still has room for four teams in the morning flight, while the afternoon tee times are all taken.

Tee times for Saturday morning start at 8:30 a.m., with the afternoon action starting at 1:30 p.m.

The teams will be flighted after the first round on Saturday, with the second round set for Sunday, June 21.

Waters also reported that all rental carts have been reserved at this point.

“I think this is the best response we have had in several years,” Waters said. “I think people are tired of being cooped up and are ready to get out and do something.”

He added that he has had at least two inquires about the remaining tournament openings.

The 36-team tournament currently stands at 32 teams.

The tournament will be conducted in a three-person scramble format, with the entry fee set at $210 per team.

Waters said that there will not be a meal provided this year in order to limit the size of the crowd to follow social distancing policies, especially in the club house.

Restrictions at the golf course caused by concerns over the spread of the -COVID-19 coronavirus were eased in May, allowing the course to reopen to the public instead of just members, and enabling the local golf club to host the traditional 36-team tourney.

After the course was opened for use by non-members, weekly scrambles started again in June.

Anyone interested in signing up for one of the final slots in the tournament should contact Waters at 325-627-3598.

Those who would like to play in the weekly Wednesday scrambles should meet at 5:00 p.m. at the club house, with a 5:30 p.m. tee time set.

The entry fee for the scramble is $10 for club members and $15 for non-members.
