FCA silent auction underway

The local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has set up a silent auction of plaques of famous athletes and public figures in an effort to raise money to send students to FCA camp this summer.

The plaques were originally ordered for an FCA golf tournament that was rained out, according to FCA East organizer Paul Johnston.

“Rather than send them back, I decided to try to use them to cover the cost of the kids who have signed up to attend FCA camp,” said Johnston. “It costs $250 per student to attend camp, and we currently have 11 kids already signed up.”

The plaques include four time Masters Champion Arnold Palmer, Payne Stewart, Tiger Woods, Case Keenum, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Mahomes, Emmitt Smith, and Donald Trump.

“The Spieth and Smith plaques are both autographed and include a certificate of authenticity,” Johnston said. “Smith’s plaque also has a portion of the game ball he carried when he broke the record for all-time leading running back.”

The other plaques have lithographed signatures on them, and are set up for display at both First Financial Bank and First National Bank Albany/Breckenridge.

Local residents can visit both banks and participate in the silent auction by writing down their bids on their plaques of interest.

Johnston said he plans to keep the silent auction going until Thursday, May 13.

“I’ll collect the auction slips and then notify the winners after I’ve picked everything up,” he said.

Donations are also welcome and can be given to any teller at either bank or by contacting Johnston at 325-660-2347.
