FBC Messy Olympics, JAM pool party scheduled

First Baptist Church members plan to take part in the Chamber of Commerce organized Back-to-School Bash on Thursday, Aug. 9.

Chamber office manager Mary Beth Jones has asked churches to provided food and fellowship at the City Park from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Aug. 9, after the pool party for fifth to 12th graders.

“We will be helping out with the hot dog meal,” said church secretary Carolyn Waller.

Youth Minister

Michala Huckabay, who graduated from Albany High in 2015 and is currently a student at Hardin Simmons University, was named as interim youth minister at First Baptist Church for the summer.

Even though classes will be starting soon, Huckabay has volunteered to continue as interim youth minister for the church until they can find someone to take over the position full time, according Waller. 

“Michala is in the process of organizing Messy Olympics for us,” said Waller. “It will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 22.”

Messy Olympics

Messy Olympics has become the traditional start of the new school year event for the First Baptist youth group.

The annual event is made up of games designed to get the participants wet, messy, laughing, and bonded together over silly games and good-natured competition.

JAM

FBC will host its annual “Party at the Pool” for JAM on Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Webb Park pool. 

“We will have registration for JAM at the pool party,” said Waller. 

The “Jesus And Me” group is geared toward elementary school aged youth from kindergarten through the sixth grade. 

The group gathers at FBC from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings for a meal and Bible stories. Their first meeting of the new school year is Sept. 5.
