Fandangle still on hold for summer production

The Fort Griffin Fandangle board of directors will meet early next week to discuss the summer show, according to artistic director Lorna Ayers.

“After Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement on Monday, the board decided to convene on Monday, May 4 to discuss our options,” said Ayers.

In the meantime, marketing director Scarlett Yates and office manager Jamie Parsons are still at work promoting this year’s summer show, scheduled for June 19, 20, 26, and 27.

“I’m still trying to figure out ways to promote the Fandangle, and I am hoping that we can hold it this summer, since it’s all the way in June,” said Yates. “But I’m also working on a plan B.”

The Fandangle Facebook page has been updated regularly with items such as children’s coloring pages, “Who is that Wednesday,” and opportunities to share favorite Fandangle memories.

“We are trying to keep Fandangle in the forefront of people’s minds, even while they are quarantined at home,” said Yates. “We’ve been preparing advertisements and working on applying for grants.”

Parsons suggested that folks consider purchasing or upgrading their Fandangle memberships on “Giving Tuesday Now,” which will take place on Tuesday, May 5.

“Giving Tuesday is the day of global giving to non-profits,” said Parsons. “It is usually held right after Thanksgiving, so I was surprised to find out one has been set for this May because of the coronavirus. We definitely wanted to make sure that people have a chance to contribute.”

Various levels of Fandangle memberships are available starting at $75 for individuals and families or $25 for those age 65 or older. They can be purchased online at the website fortgriffinfandangle.org.

“If you would like to give and support the Fort Griffin Fandangle, feel free to become a member on our website,” said Parsons. “We are so thankful for all of our Fandanglers and our members for keeping the Fandangle going during this uncertain time!”

Fandangle rehearsals had barely gotten underway in March before concerns about the coronavirus pandemic shut down much of the world. Fandangle practices for the rest of March and all of April, as well as the Membership Sampler scheduled to take place on April 25, were all cancelled.

“We have not made any strides towards virtual rehearsals,” said Ayers. “That was an option if we were truly anticipating a summer show, but as the days went on, we decided to hold off on recording and sending music. We are just in a sad holding pattern.”
