Fairways open at local golf course

Spring has officially arrived, the weather is pleasant, and the grass at the Albany Golf Course is freshly mowed and ready for players.

“Right now the course is still open, with self distancing,” said James Waters with the Albany Golf Club on Monday. “We are allowing no more than five in a group, and they are required to make sure that they keep the proper distances between each other.”

Waters said that players can only ride one person to a cart, with the exception of spouses and those in similar circumstances.

Carts are also sanitized between uses.

Wednesday scrambles have been cancelled.

“We wouldn’t be able to keep that many players spread out enough,” said Waters. “We won’t have Wednesday scrambles during COVID-19.”

The course is primarily used by Albany residents but is not limited to locals.

“We are still allowing some out-of-town players, at least at this time,” said Waters. “Some of our members live in other towns.”

Fresh air, sunshine, and exercise are reported to be good for the immune system, so golfers may want to take advantage of the opportunity to get outside and listen to the birds while they try to capture a birdie or an eagle.
