Exhibitors place in major shows

Various Shackelford County 4-H and FFA members showed project animals at the San Angelo Stock Show and at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo last week, and local students are still competing with market steers and market barrows at San Antonio this week.

Upcoming “majors” include the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March, and Rodeo Austin, also in March.

Conner Clark was seventh in Class 46, Medium Wool Junior Market Lambs at San Antonio, and qualified for the premium sale. 

Gracie Price took second place in Class 10 with her Maine Anjou heifer, Gracie Girl 15.

Other results from San Antonio were not available at press time and will be reported next week.

Local winners at San Angelo this week included the following:

Jr. Market Barrows

Hannah Snyder placed sixth with her Hampshire pig in Class 2.

Callan Edgar claimed seventh with a Berkshire barrow in Class 36.

Leddie Leech placed ninth with a Dark OPB barrow in Class 32.

Robert Snyder was 10th in Class 33, Dark OPB.

Also showing barrows at San Angelo were Chloe Anderson, Tyler Beard, Blanton Belcher, Kara Burns, Caroline Chapman, Clay Chapman, Addie Beth Denton, Matthew Duke, Carli Edgar, Tye Edgar, Tristan Edgar, Marty Jo Farmer, Tatum Grady, Huffman Heatly, Parker Henry, Jayden Kelly, Laithe Leech, Jack Nail, Chelsy Parsons, Trey Snyder, Brycen Turnbow, and Ryleigh Waters.

Texas Stars Gilts

Averie Burns placed first with a cross bred gilt and made the sale.

Laithe Leech also qualified for the sale. His Yorkshire gilt took second in its Texas Stars class, and also placed sixth in the purebred Yorkshire show.

Leddie Leech’s Spot gilt was fifth.

Maddie Stapp placed sixth in her class of Yorkshire gilts.

Also showing gilts at San Angelo were Tyler Beard, Kara Burns, Carter Carrion, Susie Cormack, MaeKayla Kersey, Allison Lemond, Judson Rogers, and Connor Smith.

Jr. Maine Anjou Heifers

Gracie Price took second place in Class 3, Heifer Calves Calved Jan. 1 through Feb. 28, 2019, with Gracie Girl 16.

Price returned to the ring later in the day with Gracie Girl 15 to place second in Class 8, Junior Heifers Calved May 1 through Aug. 31, 2018.

Jr. Hereford Heifers

Myleigh Leverage was sixth in Class 12, Senior Heifers Calved May 1 through Aug. 31, 2018 with Kab Ms Mila 01.

Junior Market Steers

J.T. Holland placed eighth in his class at San Angelo with his European Cross steer.
