Exes to meet Saturday morning

Representatives of the Albany Ex-Students Association are encouraging Albany graduates to attend as many Homecoming events as they can, including the pep rally, parade, FBC fundraising meal, football game, halftime activities, business meeting, and alumni luncheon.

Pep Rally

The pep rally will take place at the high school gym at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12.

“Since the pep rally will be early on Friday morning, it will, unfortunately, mean that some of those that don’t live in Albany won’t be able to arrive in time to attend,” Senter said. “But hopefully most will be able to make the 5:00 p.m. Homecoming parade on Friday afternoon.”

Parade

Every other year, Albany exes honor two classes by celebrating their 50th reunion, and members of the Class of 1967 and the Class of 1968 should plan to arrive at the football stadium parking lot by 4:30 p.m. in order to claim a seat on their respective class floats for the parade.

The Coming Home Royalty have been chosen by each of those classes, and the two honorees for each class will ride in a car that will directly precede their class float.

Susan Hagood Morrison and Ted Ivy are the Coming Home Royalty for the Class of 1967.

Charlotte Johnston Taggart and Joe Key are Coming Home Queen and King for the Class of 1968.

Others entering a float in the parade should contact principal Edward Morales at the high school, 325-762-3974 to reserve a spot.

Fundraiser Meal

First Baptist Church will host its traditional chili fundraiser beginning right after the parade, and continuing until game time.

The Ex-Students Association will have a table set up both at the church and later at the football game for members that still need to pay dues ($10 every two years), purchase tickets ($15 each) for Saturday’s salad lunch at the Aztec Theater, and/or update their contact information.

Dues and contact information can also be mailed to the Albany Ex-Students Association, PO Box 2633, Albany TX 76430.

Homecoming Game

The football game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

Coming Home royalty will be presented to fans during the halftime activities of Albany’s Homecoming game against Baird.

Alumni Meeting

The Ex-Students Association’s scheduled activities begin again on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Aztec Theater.

Gift bags courtesy of the merchant committee of Albany Chamber of Commerce will be handed out to the first 75 attendees and include special discounts for Albany shoppers.

The morning’s agenda includes a showing of the 60-minute long movie about Edwin Dyess titled “4-4-43”, a presentation by Albany mayor Rodney Alexander about what is going on in Albany, including the new housing development, and the Ex-Students Association business meeting.

“The last few years, the business meeting has not been as well-attended, so I looked around to try and find something that I thought would be really interesting for alumni from out of town,” president Betsy Rose Senter said. “I think that the Dyess story will be of interest to many, especially those of us that remember the family. And I know that I am looking forward to finding out more about the residential development project.”

Saturday Lunch

A salad luncheon will be served at the Aztec following the meeting, and all alumni and their spouses are invited to purchase a $15 meal ticket and enjoy visiting with each other.

“I am hoping that people will show up and have a really great time visiting with each other,” said Senter.

Individual Classes

The Class of 1988 will meet at Kim Cauble Russell’s house after the game on Friday.

The Class of 1968 has a Saturday lunch planned at Prairie Star’s Cookshack for classmates and their spouses.

The Class of 1967 will gather at Senter’s home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday for an afternoon of visiting.

The Class of 1958 has planned a 60th reunion, gathering at 3:00 p.m. Friday at the historic H.C. Jacobs house before the parade, then again on Saturday at the same location following the Ex-Students Association lunch.
