Exes meet for association business

More than 50 Albany ex-students from as far back as seven decades attended the homecoming business meeting last Saturday morning at the Aztec Theater, representing classes from the 1940s to the 1990s.

Also present for the first part of the meeting was Ryan Hill, Class of 2019, who led in the Pledge of Allegiance

Association chair Betsy Senter greeted those present, and recognized the honor classes of 1967 and 1968.

She also introduced fellow officers Leigh Lowe, Tammy Wiloth Brown, who serves as treasurer, and Melinda Viertel Lucas, who is secretary. That same slate of officers was re-elected for another two-term term.

Sacks of Albany information and coupons for downtown businesses were available to all visitors, and the documentary about Edwin Dyess was shown on the Aztec’s movie screen.

Senter explained that the association is still working to update the address list, with a new data base being developed, and she asked all exes who didn’t receive letters this year to contact one of the officers.

She also commented that she is looking for ideas to make the 2020 homecoming weekend attractive to a broader group of ex-students.

Albany mayor Rodney Alexander, an AHS ex himself, spoke for a few minutes about what is happening in the community.

After the meeting, most of those present stayed for a luncheon served in the Aztec’s reception room.
