Albany News

Early voting for the May 4 local elections will begin next Monday, April 22 and run through Tuesday, April 30, with two Albany city council positions and two Albany ISD seats to be decided by voters. A third AISD seat is uncontested, along with the Albany mayor’s post.

The early voting location for both elections is Albany’s City Hall at 425 S. 2nd Street.

Regular hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, although the site will be open for required extended hours on the first and last days of the early voting period.

Extended hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, and Tuesday, April 30.

On the regular election day on Saturday, May 4, polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the same location.

Contested Races

There are three seats being elected for the Albany ISD board of trustees

Amanda Tabor and incumbent Kelly Head have both filed for the Place 5 position, while Joe Tidwell is unopposed for Place 6.

Kim Neece, Stephen Kayga, Clint Chapman, Dinty Bowman, and Mike Bean are all running for Place 7.

According to local policy, “a candidate must receive more votes than any other candidate” to win the seat, so unless there is an actual tie among the top vote-getters, there will be no run-off election.

Albany school board members serve three-year terms.

The four candidates for the two two-year at-large positions available for the Albany city council are Dewey Knight, Ragan Riley, Don Taggart, and incumbent Carolyn Waller.

Incumbent Rodney Alexander is the sole candidate for Albany mayor.
