Downtown decor to show fall flair

Fall officially starts this Saturday, Sept. 22, and the Albany downtown area will soon be dressed for the autumn season.

The Albany Chamber of Commerce is heading up the fall decorating project that has attracted a considerable amount of drive-by attention the last few years and is expected to do so again this fall.

“We are going to start decorating at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22,” said Chamber treasurer Lisa Barton. “Anybody willing to help is more than welcome to join us.”

The cowboy scarecrows, cowboy hats, cane, sunflowers, and fall leaves have become a holiday tradition in the downtown area.

“We like to put up displays for fall,” Barton said. “Besides observing the season in general, we also have so many things coming up in Albany.”

Shifters Truck Show will bring visitors to Albany this weekend, and the  barbecue contest is next weekend. Also coming up in the near future will be the Friends of Fort Griffin Gala, Living History Days, Homecoming, golf tournaments, and the opening of deer, quail, and turkey seasons.

The autumn decor will go up just in time to welcome visitors coming to the truck show this weekend, and then will continue to add color to downtown Albany throughout the upcoming season.

“Chris Beard and the local agriculture classes gathered the cane again this year,” Barton added. “We are so grateful for their help.”
