Docents at the Old Jail Art Center have planned a spring trip to the Metroplex on April 25-27, and everyone who wants to join them needs to register by the next docents meeting on Tuesday, April 16.

“The trip is open to all OJAC members,” said docent Michael Glover. “The price will vary depending on if the person is a docent, and if they want a single or double occupancy hotel room.”

The group will visit several sites including AT&T Stadium art, Charles Williams’ art studio, Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Arboretum, Kimbell Art Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Amon Carter Museum, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and Cowgirl Museum.

For details on the trip, call Glover at 325-668-8151 or email michaelc glover@yahoo.com.

The group will leave the OJAC at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 25 and travel by van to Arlington.

Lunch will be at Texas Live, an entertainment center featuring a variety of restaurants, and then the group will arrive at AT&T Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. tour of the artwork.

“We have space for at least 20 people on the tour, and we only have about 10 signed up so far,” said Glover. “If you want to drive over and just join us for the stadium tour, but not the rest of the trip, we can arrange for that.”

After the stadium tour, the docents will drive to sculptor Charles Williams’ studio for a tour and talk given by his son Karl Williams.

“We have some of Charles Williams’ sculptors at the Old Jail in the permanent collection,” said Glover.

The group will split up for free time in downtown Dallas after checking into the Dallas-Magnolia Hotel.

Friday morning will be divided between the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center. Friday afternoon will be spent at the Dallas Arboretum.

Saturday morning, the tour will continue in the Fort Worth cultural district, where several museums are within walking distance or only a short drive away from each other.

The van is expected to return to Albany before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, April 27.
