Dacus, Stewart named Mr., Miss AHS

Albany High School students selected eight class members as royalty for the 2019 Winter Formal, including this year’s Mr. and Miss AHS. 

The Winter Formal is organized each year by the AHS student council, and was held Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Whitney Theatre.

Three boys and three girls from each of the four classes were nominated by their peers in class meetings held earlier this month, with the winners selected last week.

Honorees were announced and presented toward the end of the Saturday night event.

Cameron Dacus and Haley Stewart were elected by the entire student body from the senior class nominees, and were crowned Mr. and Miss AHS. 

Other Honorees

Winter Formal Prince and Princess honorees were named for each class.

Representing the juniors were Carley Green and Tyler Beard. 

Sophomore princess is Alli Hill and Ryder Wilkins is the prince. 

Caitlan Lee and Monte Cauble were selected by the freshman class. 

Miss AHS

Haley Stewart is the daughter of Kevan Stewart and the granddaughter of Candy Riley.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, serving as secretary this year. She also served on the student council for three years as a class representative and has been class reporter for two years.

She has been part of the one-act play cast and was selected to the all-star cast as a junior. 

The four-year honor student has competed in UIL poetry for two years.

Stewart is co-president of FCCLA this year and has also participated in FFA and yearbook.

She was chosen by her class as  freshman Winter Formal princess and was a homecoming queen nominee last fall.

Stewart participated in volleyball for three years and advanced to bi-district in tennis as a freshman.

She has been accepted into the Rawls School of Business at Texas Tech University and plans to major in human resources.

Mr. AHS

Cameron Dacus is the son of Robert and Tina Dacus.

He has been on the Lions varsity football team for the last two years, earning numerous honors including all-district and Big Country team recognition on teams that went to the regional and state semifinal levels.

During his AHS career, he has also been a standout on Lion basketball teams that have reached at least the regional quarterfinals for three straight years. 

Dacus, a four-year veteran of the Lion varsity track team, helped set new school records and ran in the mile relay at state the last two years.

A Winter Formal nominee all four years, he was class prince for the first three. He was also homecoming king nominee.

Other activities include one-act play, student council, and FCCLA. He has been class vice president for two years and was treasurer as a sophomore. 

Dacus has not yet selected a college, but is interested in attending either Howard Payne University or Hardin-Simmons University.
