After interviewing four candidates in separate interviews last Wednesday afternoon, Shackelford County commissioners voted unanimously to ask the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to offer the job of Shackelford County Extension Agent to Kloey Painter of Alpine.

Michaela Bradford left the post vacant several months ago when she opted to take a teaching position with Albany ISD.

The commissioners made the decision following a three-hour special meeting on Oct. 16, with the interviews and subsequent vote the only items listed on the agenda.

Lanham Martin voiced the motion to recommend Painter, with Ace Reames seconding.

Albany ag instructor and FFA sponsor Chris Beard, who has helped with the extension agent’s duties since Bradford’s resignation, was on the interview board, according to county judge Robert Skelton.

Also present were Robert Pritz, regional program director of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, and Marty Gibbs of San Angelo, district extension administrator.

The four candidates were proposed by the extension service, said Skelton.

Painter has served in Brewster County for the past three and a half years.

She is married with a small child, said Skelton, and plans to move here with her family in time to begin her duties by Nov. 12.
