Ag instructor Chris Beard, on behalf of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas, presented the Outstanding Chapter Advocate award to the Albany Kiwanis Club and Outstanding Chapter Newspaper award to The Albany News during the Albany ISD’s district breakfast last Wednesday morning.

Publisher Donnie Lucas accepted the newspaper award, and Zach Maberry, Steve Waller, and Robert Dacus were on hand as a members of the Kiwanis Club.

The VATAT award winners had been recognized during the association’s annual professional development conference in Corpus Christi on July 28 to Aug. 2.

Beard attended the training conference and picked up the awards on behalf of the two local winners.

The awards are presented annually, and winners are chosen from each of the 10 FFA areas in Texas based on their service and commitment to the VATAT, and agricultural science and technical education.
