Another $600 in donations during the past week brought the Albany Chest campaign a little closer to its 2019 goal, although about $2,200 was still needed at press time on Tuesday evening, according to treasurer Paige Adair.

The total collected so far is about 95 percent of the $42,000 target. Last year, the same goal had been exceeded at this time.

It is hoped that last-minute donations will push the drive over the top.

The directors met at the Feed Store at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8 to decide how to allocate the funds, and board members hoped that contributions would enable them to fulfill requests from all 24 of the organizations that applied for funding, although several of those applications were for more than the $3,000 limit set by the Chest board a few years ago.

The by-laws allow the directors to go above that amount in specific situations, such as when an organization has a one-time need and provides details about how the funding will be spent.

Details of the meeting will be reported next week.
