Chest still $9,233 short of goal

With only about $500 added to the Albany Chest goal during Christmas week, the 2018 campaign is still short more than $9,000.

Board members are hoping that enough additional donations will come in before the official close of the drive on Dec. 31 to enable them to reach the $42,000 goal.

According to Paige Adair at First National Bank, the total for the Chest drive was $32,767 as of Monday.

Only $530 has been given since last week’s report.

“It’s disappointing to still be almost $10,000 short with a week to go before the deadline,” said board vice president Donnie Lucas. “And it’s alarming that we may have to cut requests by that much.”

Twenty-six organizations submitted requests for funding this year, and the News has taken a brief look at two or three of the beneficiaries in each issue over the past few months since the campaign began in late September.

“This is the final push and we really need those people who haven’t donated yet to consider helping us out before the end of the year,” said Lucas. “It is, of course, a tax deductible gift. At this point, any size gift can make a difference.”

Lucas said the directors are very grateful for those who have already donated.

“Hopefully, we will receive enough year-end donations to reach the goal,” Lucas added.

The Albany Chest board traditionally waits to see how the money comes in before setting the final allocations.

The fundraising drive will officially end on Dec. 31 and board members hope to distribute checks to the organizations soon after the first of the year.

Chest directors will meet in January to go over campaign results and finalize amounts.

Contributions to the Chest can be given to Paige Adair at First National Bank or Keri Hebel at First Financial Bank, or they can be mailed to Albany Chest, PO Box 2019, Albany TX 76430.
