A car chase that began in Albany ended on the other side of Stephens County’s One-Mile Bridge with the arrest of a 36-year-old woman on Saturday afternoon.

Just after 1:00 p.m. on June 27, the Shackelford County sheriff’s office started receiving calls from local drivers about a reckless driver on Main Street.

Reportedly, before being stopped by local deputy Jason Price, the driver of the car narrowly missed two other vehicles.

When Price tried to make contact with her in the parking lot at Albany Food Mart, she fled in her vehicle, headed toward Breckenridge on Highway 180.

Price pursued and was soon joined by sheriff Ed Miller and Shackelford County game warden -Jacob Mort, with speeds just under 90 MPH.

Spike strips were put into place on the east side of the bridge, and the driver of the car was forced to stop. She was arrested and charged with felony evading charges.

“Aberash Gelagile is an Ethiopian female who was obviously in a mental illness crisis,” said Miller. “She was transferred to a Dallas psychiatric facility on Monday.”

He added that the charges were dropped.

“We were fortunate that there were no accidents,” said Miller.
