As Albany organizations, along with other parts of the country, begin to relax strict social distancing measures,  members of the Albany Chamber of Commerce will start back to in-person meetings on Tuesday, June 2.

The next merchants meeting will be held at Vintage Vanilla at 9:00 a.m., and the June board meeting will be held at the Prairie Star Cookshack at 12:00 p.m.

Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones said Chamber lunches will resume on Friday, June 12, with the location to be determined at the board meeting and announced next week.

Shop Local

With wide-spread -COVID-19 shutdowns, Jones said she hopes Albany residents will continue to shop local even when the pandemic is over.

“We have learned through this trying time just how much we need our local businesses,” Jones said. “Always buy from Albany first. It will not be long before residents are asking merchants to donate to organizations. If we do not shop local, then the businesses will not be here to support the town.”

American Flags

Jones said the Chamber would like to thank Megan Ledbetter for placing American flags out on Memorial Day.

American flags are placed outside the downtown merchant area of Albany on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day.

Jones said the  American flags are a complimentary service from the Chamber and to call the Chamber office if a flag did not make it to your business, so she can order more for the next holiday.

Chamber Website

Jones added that the Chamber has a new website that she is designing.

“The site is still a work in progress,” Jones said. “More information about Albany will be provided than before and it will be current. This includes all paid 2020 Chamber members.”

She also said contact information for city and county offices are being listed on the site so all businesses can work together in getting residents’ information.

The web address is albanytexaschamberof commerce.wordpress.com.

Jones said she has recently fielded several phone calls about the opening of the city pool.

The City of Albany is the resource for parks and recreation, and that includes the swimming pool. For information about the reopening of the pool, call 325-762-3133.
