Rapidly changing world events are having a significant impact on the local level.

Several events are being cancelled that were postponed just a few weeks ago.

The Albany Chamber of Commerce has decided to cancel all Chamber events until further notice. Even Chamber board meetings will be held via phone or text.

The second annual Wild West Days is included in these cancellations. Last year was the first time this event took place. The Chamber reported a larger crowd than normal for first time events, and oranizers were hopeful for another successful turnout. Wild West Days was scheduled for May 23.

Chamber director Mary Beth Jones said the decision to cancel Wild West Days and other Chamber activities will leave open the time in May for other local matters. If and when school resumes, that time will need to be dedicated to finishing out regular school events and activities, she explained.

“Also, businesses are hurting, and now is not the time to ask for sponsorships,” said Jones. “Later in the year we hope to throw a big party to bring people to town and spend money.”

Other organizations are in limbo with their events on hold as well.

Flying A Classic Car Club member Robert Snyder said the Albany Classic Car Show with an original date of April 18 and contingency set for May 16 has yet to be rescheduled. The May date was the rain out date, he said.

The club will also host a truck show in August. Both events showcase restored vintage vehicles.
