Get ready to be counted.

The U.S. Census Bureau began to drop off 2020 Census questionnaire packets at the front doors of households in the Albany area on Wednesday, May 27.

U.S. Census Bureau Media Representative for Lubbock Brenda MacDonald explained hand delivering of census materials is done where the majority of households do not receive their mail at their physical address.

The Bureau began the hand delivery operation in March but had to suspend all fieldwork due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Temporary field staff have been trained to observe all social distancing protocols and will wear government provided personal protective equipment for their safety and the safety of the public.

MacDonald said this operation will ensure a complete and accurate count of all communities in the area, which help guide hundreds of billions of dollars in public and private sector spending per year.

Residents can respond online, by phone, or by using the form in the packet that will be provided.

Currently, the  response rate for Shackelford County is 30.4 percent.
