Clint Chapman and Stephen Kayga threw their hats into the ring for Place 7 on the Albany school board this week, joining Dinty Bowman and Jerry (Mike) Bean who both filed for the Place 7 trustee spot last week.  

The seat, currently held by retiring school board president Betsy Parsons, was the only contested race on the ballot as of press time on Tuesday.

Candidates must file by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 to have their names listed on the ballot for one of the local offices up for election on May 4. There is no filing fee.

Albany City Council

The office of mayor and two of the at-large city council seats are up for election in 2019. City council board members, including the mayor, serve for two-year terms.

Rodney Alexander is the current mayor. Carolyn Waller and Joe Tidwell hold the two board seats that will be voted on this cycle. 

No one had filed for the positions as of press time on Jan. 29.

Applications for city council and for the office of mayor are available at the Albany City Hall from city secretary Becky Wiloth. Those with questions can call Wiloth at 325-762-3133.

Albany ISD 

Board of Trustees

Bean, Bowman, Chapman, and Kayga are all running for Place 7 on the Albany school board.

Joseph Tidwell has filed for Place 6, the seat currently held by retiring member Pam Davis.

Incumbent Kelly Head has filed for re-election to Place 5.

Candidates for the Albany school board must live within the boundaries of the school district and must file for a specific seat. 

Applications are available at the superintendent’s office at the secondary school campus.

Trustees serve for three-year terms and three seats will be determined this election.

Hospital Board

The Shackelford County Hospital Board two-year, at-large seats currently held by Jo Ann Estridge, Mike Bean, and Leslie Belcher will be on the ballot this year.

Candidates for the hospital board must have their applications signed by 10 registered Shackelford County voters.

According to Regina Whitt at the district office, no one has turned in a packet so far, but Jayme Vaughn and incumbent Jo Ann Estridge have picked up packets.

Election information and applications are available from Whitt at the district office at 840 Gregg Street.

Moran City Council

According to Jackie Wallace at City Hall, Steve Taggart has filed for re-election to the office of mayor, but no one has filed for the two at-large seats on the Moran City Council that are also up for election in 2019.

The member seats up for vote are currently held by Stanley Reeves and Lisa McFerrin. 

The mayor and council members serve for two-year terms.

Applications are available from Wallace at Moran City Hall.

Moran ISD 

Board of Trustees

Trustees on the Moran school board serve three-year terms, and the two at-large terms of Alice Branham and Sam Snyder are expiring this year.

As of Tuesday, no one had filed for the trustee positions, according to superintendent Danny Freeman.

People must live within the school district’s boundaries to be eligible to serve on the Moran ISD school board.

Packets for the positions are available in the superintendent’s office during school hours.
