C-C meet to be held here

An Albany junior high runner earned his third top 10 medal in as many meets when local athletes participated in a Haskell event on Sept. 19.

Eighth grader Isaiah Carrillo was sixth of 59 junior high boys in the two-mile course.

Sidney Russell was just out of the medals with a 12th place in the seventh grade girls division.

Local Meet

Local athletes will join a dozen or more other schools in an FCA-sponsored meet here in Albany next Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Paul Johnston, FCA’s Big Country East representative, said Tuesday that he is expecting 12 to 14 teams per division, with a full slate of divisions from seventh grade boys and girls through high school varsity athletes scheduled to start running at 2:30 p.m.

The meet, which is being held at the Albany Golf Course, will be over by 4:15 p.m., Johnston said.

Entry fees for the teams will be used to send students to a winter FCA camp.

Haskell Results

Local runners are improving their times each week, according to coach Tate Thompson.

“We are dealing with some injuries right now, so we are focusing on getting those kids healthy,” said Thompson. “Most of the participants are multi-sport athletes, so the fact that they are still improving gives testament to their work ethic. They are practicing their primary sport, then have the discipline to do their cross country workout on their own time.”

Albany runners ran in Hamlin on Wednesday, Sept. 26, but results weren’t available at press time.
