The Albany High School band will compete in the UIL Region 6, East Zone band concert and sightreading contest in Abilene next week.

The contest takes place at Cooper High School over two days, and Albany is scheduled to play on the second day, Wednesday, April 3.

“We have 26 band members in grades eight through 12, and we are coming along pretty well,” said Albany band instructor John Stockdale. “We have a good program; we just need to polish it. I am hoping that we can get in three or four more practices with everybody there.”

The band will play three pieces for the contest, including Brazos Valley March by R. Reely, Courtlandt County Festival by William Owens, and Russian Sailor’s Dance by Reinhold Gliere arranged by Mark Williams.

Judges on the concert panel this year are Rob Hartman of Anson, Carroll Rhodes of Tahoka, and Mike Lewis of Burnet.

Members on the sightreading panel are Abby Crawford of Fort Worth, Matt Knight of Abernathy, and Tammy Summersgill of Shallowater.
