AWAKEN service set this Sunday

This Sunday, March 28 is Palm Sunday, with a community-wide service planned that evening by members of the Albany Ministerial Alliance.

In addition, local  churches will be hosting  special services and activities during the week leading up to Easter which will be celebrated on Sunday, April 4.

Community Service

The Ministerial Alliance will host the Easter Community Service called AWAKEN at the Aztec  Theater at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28.

Tyler and Bailey Dodds from Stonegate Fellowship in Midland will lead the praise and worship portion of the event.

Cory Devino will be the featured speaker for the evening.

Free child care will be provided by the Albany High School senior class and parents courtesy of the Ministerial Alliance.

There will be a limited number of spots for child care, and parents must pre-register their children by Friday, March 26.

Children ages birth to four years will be at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church with adult sponsors.

Older children from kindergarten to fourth grade will be across the street at the Feed Store, also with adult sponsors helping the high school students.

First Methodist

First United Methodist Church will hold a “SonRise Service” on Easter Sunday, April 4 at Stasney’s Cook Ranch inside or just outside of the cook shack, depending on the weather conditions. 

The breakfast will begin at 7:00 a.m. followed by the service at 7:30 a.m.

Lance Thomas, lay leader, will provide the message. 

Albany residents of all denominations are invited to participate in the service, which will conclude before Sunday School classes and morning services begin within their own denominations. 

Breakfast will be provided for everyone in attendance.

UMC will hold its regular Easter service at 11:00 a.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt.

Bethel Assembly

Bethel Assembly members will hold their annual Easter celebration on April 4, including lunch and an egg hunt.

The Sunday service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the special events will follow the service.

The service and activities are open to the public. 

Matthews Memorial

Presbyterian Church

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian will have church services at the regular time on Easter Sunday, followed by an egg hunt for the children after the service.

Everyone is invited.

First Christian

First Christian Church will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7:00 p.m. on April 1. 

The congregation will have Easter morning services, including the flowering of the cross, during the regular Sunday worship time of 11:00 a.m.

Trinity Lutheran

Trinity Lutheran will host an Easter Sunrise service at 7:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Cemetery. 

Breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. at the church fellowship hall followed by the Easter Divine service at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. 

An Easter egg hunt will be held immediately following the service.
