Aug. 14 last day for city pool to open

Although the thermometer may not yet agree, according to the calendar summer is winding down, and the Albany city swimming pool will close for the season in less than two weeks.

“The pool will be closing on Tuesday, Aug. 14,” said Dakota Fowler, who manages the pool. “It will still be available for private rentals through the month of August, but there will be no public swim hours after Aug. 14.”

Those that still need a little more time in the pool can take advantage of the few remaining public swim times, rent the pool, or wrangle an invite to one of the private parties.

Regular Pool Hours

Monday through Saturday, the pool is open 12:30-5:30 p.m.

Sunday pool hours are 2:00-5:00 p.m.

Daily entrance fees are $2.50.

Family swim time is on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a special rate of $1 per person. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Private rental of the pool costs $125 per two-hour time block.

To inquire for available rental times, and/or to book a time slot, call the City of Albany at 325-762-3133.

High school and junior high students can join The Feed Store’s pool party from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6.

Children from fifth through 12th grades are invited to swim at the pool from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce Back to School Bash next Thursday, Aug. 9.

Kids from kindergarten to sixth grade that are interested in joining the First Baptist Church’s Jesus and Me group (JAM) are invited to a pool party on Wed. Aug. 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Few things mark the end of summer quite like the closing of the swimming pool and the beginning of the school year. Both are just days away, so summer enthusiasts may want to head outside, go to Webb Park, and dive in the pool before the season ends.
