Winners from Abilene, Anson, Stamford, and Wylie were announced by the Old Jail Art Center’s Junior Docents at the opening reception of the museum’s 14th annual Student Art Show, “Talking Back 2019,” on Saturday, March 9.

Edward Ezagui of Abilene High School was presented with the award for “Best in Show.”

The piece entered by Eden Suley of Wylie High School was judged as “Most Creative.”

“This year’s Student Art Show opening was a great success,” said education coordinator Molly Merck. “Out of over 300 submissions, our Junior Docent Corps were thoughtful and critical to narrow it down to a show of nearly 50 pieces that demonstrated craftsmanship, creativity, and ‘talked back’ to the OJAC collection pieces.”

Several winners, participants, and family members attended the opening, with entries from Abilene, Anson, Moran, Stamford, Throckmorton, and Wylie.

“Five of our Junior Docents and interns helped facilitate the ceremony and hand out awards,” said Merck. “The student artwork will be on display in the Stasney Center through the end of March.”

The Junior Docents Corps includes Sidney Bartee, Julia Bowman, Susie Cormack, Morgan Wood, Leddie Leech, Ella Webb, and Madison Wilkins.
