Pick-up dates for the June distribution of the commodity food program, provided by Shackelford County, are June 4 and 5.

Justice of the Peace James Breeden, who handles the program for the county along with Melissa Hobbs, said distribution will be back to one-on-one contact, and there will be help to load food for families.

Breeden also said that, depending on supplies at the Abilene food bank next week, there should be refrigerated/frozen food again and possibly produce.

On Thursday, June 4 certified families in Moran will be able to pick up their monthly commodity food at the Moran City Hall between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Albany families who have been certified eligible for the June food distribution can pick up their commodity food Friday, June 5, at the back door of the JP office from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Recipients who are unable to pick up in person can send a signed and dated note with someone to pick up their commodities for them, rather then letting the food go unclaimed.

The commodity food program is federally funded and works to improve the health of low-income and elderly people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA commodity foods.

For more information or to apply for a monthly food box, call the JP office in the Shackelford County Courthouse at 325-762-9430.
