Albany students and most of the staff will enjoy a break from classes on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 14, with a student holiday and staff “comp” day scheduled.

Local administrators expect only a few teachers to be on campus, as most have already fulfilled their continuing education requirements.

The Nancy Smith Ele-mentary School office will be closed all day, but there will be someone at the offices of both the superintendent and Albany Junior/Senior High at least part of the day.

Classes will resume for all AISD students on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the normal 7:55 a.m. time for the start of the school day at NSES and 8:00 a.m. for the secondary campus.

The second six weeks period is already underway and ends on Nov. 8.

The long weekend for the Thanksgiving holidays encompasses Nov. 27 through Nov. 29, with an early release on Nov. 26.

The semester will end Dec. 20, the same day that Albany ISD will dismiss early for the Christmas break. The staff will return Jan. 6, with students back in class on Jan. 7 for the start of the second semester.
