Albany News

Resignations were accepted, contracts renewed, and a teacher hired at Monday’s AISD board meeting.

Longtime local band director John Stockdale, who has been in Albany 20 years and in  music education for close to 60, submitted his resignation, and along with second grade teacher Lindsey Edgar’s resignation, it was accepted with regrets.

Also after the closed session came renewal of current term and probationary faculty contracts, along with approval of letters of assurance for the support staff.

New Teacher

In other action, the board voted to extend a one-year probationary contract to Lori Warren to fill the vacancy resulting from third grade teacher Karen Martin’s retirement.

Warren has 19 years of experience, most at the elementary level. She and her husband moved to Albany last summer, and she is presently teaching special education in Breckenridge.

School Funding

Superintendent Jonathan Scott and retiring board president Betsy Parsons went over some of the current legislative dialogue involving school funding.

They both suggested that board members talk to their representatives and encourage constituents to also contact their state legislators about any dissatisfactions with the way funding is being handled.

“Identity politics has become accepted practice, and it doesn’t make any difference which group is in the majority,” said Parsons. “It’s all about the votes.”

Other Business

•The board accepted a $7,215 donation from the Academic Booster Club to pay for a portable screen, MakerDen supplies, and support for the regional UIL competition.

•Scott showed a preliminary rendition of the new scoreboard being donated for the football stadium, and trustees also decided on the location of lettering for “Faith Field” so that it will be prominent but not detract from the longtime designation of “Robert Nail Stadium.”
