5th quarter fellowship set Friday

Area churches will once again host the successful and popular after-game fellowships following each of the Albany Lions’ home football games for 2018, according to Brad McBee, president of the Albany Ministerial Alliance.

The first “Fifth Quarter” event of the season will be held Friday, Aug. 31 at The Feed Store and will be hosted by Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Chick-fil-A, desserts, and drinks will be served at tomorrow’s event, according to MMPC minister Anthony Ceder.

“It is always a blessing to be able to serve the youth of our community after the games and to offer them a time of fellowship, food, and fun,” said McBee. “The kids sure seem to enjoy it, and we do too.”

The fellowships begin immediately after the varsity home football games and conclude at 12:00 midnight. The Feed Store is scheduled to be the location for all but the final Fifth Quarter this year, when the gathering will take place outside of town for a bonfire, weather permitting.

All students in grades seven through 12 are invited and encouraged to attend Fifth Quarters, and local churches take turns sponsoring the event.

The schedule and sponsors for the remainder of the 2018 season include:

Sept. 14 after the Eastland game, the fellowship will be held at The Feed Store, and will be sponsored by First Christian Church and Beltway Baptist.

After the homecoming game with Baird on Oct. 12, Fifth Quarter will be sponsored by the Albany Church of Christ, Maranatha Fellowship, and Jesus of Nazareth Catholic Church.

Following the Cross Plains match up on Oct. 26, Friendship Baptist and United Methodist Church will cosponsor Fifth Quarter.

Nov. 9 following the Hamlin final regular season game, First Baptist Church and First United Pentecostal will host the youth post-game fellowship at the Davis’ place for a bonfire.
