Community asked to answer search survey

With more than half of the intended application time for the Albany ISD superintendent post already gone, AISD trustees discussed the possibility of extending the process until the end of the year during a regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 17.

When board members first decided on the time line in July, they chose to take applications during September, set up interviews by mid-October, and announce a lone finalist by Nov. 19.

However, with fewer candidates so far than they had anticipated, the trustees considered that timing might be limiting the field.

“We have some good applicants, but I don’t want to be ham stringed by a date,” said board president Betsy Parsons. “We need to think about what we’re going to do.”

The board reviewed applications in closed session for over an hour, but no action was taken to change the dates when the meeting was reopened.

However, the trustees did vote to seek input from the community about what is wanted in a new superintendent.

Interim superintendent Doyleen Terrell said Tuesday that a survey is accessible on the district’s website at albanyisd.net by scrolling about halfway down the home page and clicking on the link under “Albany ISD Superintendent Search.” All local residents are encouraged to fill out the online survey.

2017-2018 Audit

CPA Cameron Gulley presented the audit for 2017-2018, but said that no action should be taken until figures are received from the Community Foundation of Abilene regarding Albany ISD’s investments.

He did not cite any compliance issues and noted that even though the fund balance has again decreased, the district is in good shape.
