Chamber plans August social

Members of the Albany Chamber of Commerce are planning to hold their next  bi-annual party in August, according to Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones.

“We have some things to celebrate and some folks to honor,” she said. “We plan to recognize some outstanding citizens. The theme will be centered around the ‘Home of the Hereford’ sign going up again.”

Jones has requested that anyone with information about the early history of the sign contact her.

“I’m researching the Home of the Hereford sign and the history of what ranch brought the first Hereford to Shackelford County and when,” said Jones. “I have found that J.H. Nail won Grand Champion at the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show in March of 1922 with a Here-ford he raised. If you have any other info, please email me at chamber@albanytexas.com.”
