Bond reissue proposed
By Melinda L. Lucas
Shackelford County commissioners heard a second presentation regarding the possibility of reissuing the bonds for the Law Enforcement Center at a lower interest rate, saving the county about $600,000 over the course of the next 11 years.
The elected officials heard a similar proposal last month from a different company.
They voted to schedule a special meeting next Monday, Nov. 16 to further discuss the options, then potentially make a decision at the next regularly scheduled session on Nov. 23.
The bonds for the LEC were originally issued in 2011 at interest rates ranging from 4.6 to 5.45 percent. Because current rates are well under two percent, the county’s savings would be substantial, and the final maturity date of 2031 would not change.
Relief Grants
Commissioners reviewed applications from county-owned businesses outside Albany and Moran city limits for Coronavirus Relief Fund Grants.
The elected officials decided to split the available funding equally among the 19 small businesses that applied.
