By David H. WallerThe Albany High School boys golf team turned in two of their best rounds of the season at last week’s regional tournament but fell just short of advancing to state, finishing sixth in a highly competitive field.

By Melinda L. LucasTen Albany High students are advancing to the Region II Academic Meet on Friday and Saturday at Grayson College in Denison.Students qualified in seven contests by placing in the top three places individually or as part of first place teams at the district UIL meet last month.

Albany’s boys and girls track teams competed in the Region I-2A track meet last weekend in Springtown, facing one of the most competitive fields in recent memory. Though no athletes advanced to the state meet this year, coaches said the experience will be a motivator going forward.

By Melinda L. LucasAfter taking a long weekend off for the Easter holiday, the Albany Lions returned to the field for the last game of the regular baseball season on Tuesday against Hawley. Results were not available at press time and will be reported next week.

Moran High School athlete Ellis Hise is finishing up a busy spring season with appearances at the district tennis tournament, regional track meet, and regional golf tournament.He and Ezekiel Henson will travel to Angelo State University this Friday for the UIL regional academic meet.

The Albany Chamber of Commerce is throwing its annual Membership Crawfish Boil and Fish Fry tonight, and all members are invited to join the celebration.The event begins at 6:00 p.m.
