Speed limits set for 3 county roads

IT company rep gathers information Following the required public hearing at the beginning of Monday’s meeting of the Shackelford County commissioners, the elected officials voted unanimously to enact 35 mile per hour speed limits on three county roads within Precinct 1. Commissioner Steve Riley had requested the speed limits last month on CR 174, 117, and 119.

For the fourth year in a row, the Albany FCCLA chapter is conducting its Turkey Teacher Contest. Students vote with $1 donations to select a secondary teacher or staff member to wear a turkey costume all day on Friday, Nov.

Young Explorers study feasts in Leviticus

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church Young Explorers class is digging into the fall feasts of Leviticus 23 this year in its endeavor to equip students with an overview of the structure and story of the Bible. Young Explorers is made up of students in fourth through seventh grade,meetingWednesday afternoons to play review games, dig deeper, and create special projects like salt maps of the Middle East and construction of a sukkah, a temporary dwelling to celebrate the Feast of the Tabernacles or Sukkot.

Running Man draws 93 students

Atotalof93runnerstook part in the 28th Running Manyoutheventsponsored by The Feed Store, including 14 adult runners and 28 adult volunteers. The 9th, 11th, and 12th grade classes tied for first place in the competition with 100 percent of team members successfully returning to The Feed Store without being caught by spotlighters.
Eighth graders (l-r) Kynlee Milligan, Tinlee Hefnet, and Hattie Fikes were the first three students back at the Feed Store during last Saturday’s annual Running Man. The event drew 93 participants.

Recipes needed by Nov. 8

The Albany News’ 19th annual holiday recipe section will be published in one month, with favorite recipes being solicited from all ages of current and former Albany and Moran chefs and bakers. “We’ve had really good response since we started publishing the recipe guides, and we’re looking forward to getting this one underway,” said News editor Melinda Lucas.

Bazaar planned Nov. 9

Members of Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church resume one of Albany’s longest-running traditions with their annual bazaar. The event, which is organized by the church’s Sallie Matthews Circle, has been held almost annually for more than a century, with very few exceptions.
