4-H finishes summer program

ShackelfordCounty4-H concluded its summer entrepreneurship program Thursday, June 27 with more than a dozen club members selling items in a marketsetupatBankPark. A total of 16 club members erected stands to sell individual items after two weeks of group projects.

Athletic Boosters get ready for upcoming fall seasons

The Albany Athletic Booster Club has started preparations for the 202425 school year. Booster Club president Cari Heatly said a meeting to discuss advertising sales for football programs is planned for early July, but a time and date have not been decided yet.

Gage Burton attends Ranch Brigade

Shackelford County’s Gage Burton attended a Texas Brigades camp in June, continuing a string of local youth to participate in the Brigades program. Burton, who will be a home-schooled seventh grader this fall, attended the South Texas Ranch Brigade, held Sunday-Thursday, June 23-27 at Duval County Ranch near Freer.

Fandangle-dressed pets prance around Bank Park

A variety of pets were pranced around in front of a crowd at the Bank Park Saturdayduringtheannual Fandangle Pet Parade. Winners were named in several categories, with first place receiving $25 in AlbanyBucks,secondplace earning$15,andthirdplace receiving $10.

3 AHS cheerleaders named All-American

TheAlbanyLionscheerleading squad completed a three-day camp with a National Cheer Association instructor on Wednesday, June 26 in preparation for the upcoming school year. Albany cheerleaders earned a spirit stick, three blueribbons,andtwoteam awards in addition to individual honors during the camp, which was conducted by NCA instructor Ja’Mya Cole.

Local athletes take holiday break

TheAlbanyLionsbegan the second half of their sixweek summerconditioning program Monday, July 1. Athletes in the boys program were given a day off today for the Fourth of July holiday.

Albany baseball players receive awards

Four Albany Lion seniors were named to the All-Big Country Preps Baseball Team, including two first-team selections. The Lions went 19-4 this spring, earning a share of the District 8-2A championship and reaching the thirdround of the playoffs.
